Electric Services

Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CWEP) serves over 6,800 residential customers and just over 1,200 general service, commercial, and industrial accounts with electric service. The CWEP Power Plant is rated a 35-Megawatt plant and is located at the intersection of 3rd and River Street, in Carthage. This means our combination of 9 Nordberg & Cooper dual fuel engines can generate 35 Megawatts of electricity an hour.

CWEP maintains and operates 4 distribution substations throughout city. Power is purchased out of the Southwest Power Pool along with firm purchase power agreements with the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities, the Missouri Electric Commission, and Southwest Power Administration. Power contracts such as these will allow CWEP to keep our reliable, low-cost energy supply well into the future.

CWEP owns and maintains approximately 177.5 miles of 13.2kV distribution line, and approximately 8.5 miles of 69kV transmission line throughout the Carthage area.
